Chapel of our Lady of the Rock

Surrounded by the crystal waters of the sea, it was built in the XVI century. The views from the Chapel are some of the most beautiful ones on the Algarve Coast.

Castle of Silves

The first “owners” of the hill were the Visigoths, then the Romans (1st century). In the 8th century was occupied by the Moors, who expanded it. In the 13th century, it was taken by the Portuguese.

Sé Cathedral of Silves

The cathedral was built in 1189, with the conquest of the Castle by the Portuguese. Most part of the building is from the 15th century, with a Gothic architectural style.

Chapel of the Bones

From the 16th century, the entire chapel has been lined with human bones and skulls. It’s one of the few examples of the Rococo movement in sacred art in Portugal.
